My Favorite Verse

James 1:27 (NIV)
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

God revealed Himself to me through this verse during a very stressful time in my homeschooling. While we are never going to be able to keep all the evil of the world from our children, we can help monitor it and address things as they come up. Just keeping the communication lines open with our kids will allow them the freedom to come to us when they have questions or concerns about the world they live in. I love it that my teen and preteen feel confident that we will tell them the truth, even when the truth is hard to talk about and out of our comfort zones. My husband is actually a lot better at this than I am, so I do leave a lot of that up to him. Homeschooling, in and of itself, lends to great communication between kids and parents because of the quantity of time spent together. Although we have had rough days, weeks, and even rough school years, I would not trade the time and energy I have invested in my children homeschooling them. I could not resist posting the picture of my kiddos--here no evil, speak no evil, see no evil.
